Winter is coming. Yes, we’ve all heard it. Whether you are a Game of Thrones fan, or just preparing to hunker down in preparation for those blustery Chicago Winters. What we do not stop to realize is just because those 80-90 degree days are over, we still have a beautiful season that deserves some attention. Fall is one of my favorite seasons. Not only do I personally think I look better in a sweater than a tank top, but I live for 50-65 degree weather. There’s fall fashion, pumpkin patches, apple picking, crock pot goodies and football!

Speaking of football, as a fair-weather fan, I’m all about the game day eats. Three words I would use to describe the Superbowl are commercials, halftime and food. Today I want to share a yummy game day recipe that you can make using the delicious Grain Berry cereal. I’ve partnered with Grain Berry to share some fun, fall inspired recipes. Even though Summer is over and we don’t need to worry about our bathing suit bodies, it’s still nice to keep it healthy. The Grain Berry Honey Nut Toasted Oats in this recipe use real almonds and have 33% less sugar than the leading brands. Best thing about it, kids love it. Just look at Gideon’s face.

Time for the recipe:

Serves: 6-8
Prep time: 10-15 minutes
Cooking Time: 20-30 minutes

Ingredients:
2 cups- Grain Berry Honey Nut Toasted Oats
1 cup Planters peanuts (unsalted)
1/2 cup- Pecan Pieces
1 cup- Quicos Corn Nuts
1 cup- Mini Pretzels (unsalted)
3/4 tsp- Cinnamon
1/4 tsp- Cayenne
1 & 1/2 tsp- Seasoning blend (Used one of my favorite chefs Jimmy Bannos, it has onion and garlic in it with paprika)
1/2 tsp- Salt
4 tbsp- Butter (unsalted)
2 tbsp- Brown sugar
2 tbsp- Worcestershire sauce
15-20- Fresh sage leaves

Directions:

1. Head on over to your local Jewel Osco and get all of the ingredients
2. Preheat oven to 325 degrees
3. In a large bowl add the Grain Berry Honey Nut Toasted Oats, Planters Peanuts, Pecan Pieces, Quicos Corn Nuts, Mini Pretzels and a few sage leaves
4. In a pan, melt the butter on medium heat
   • If you are fancy and really want to get that good butter flavor, I’d suggest browning your butter. To do this, you wait until your butter begins to bubble/foam. Start swirling your pan to avoid burning and shortly you’ll notice the color difference taking place in your butter. The light brownish butter will take on a nutty smell and once you get there, remove from heat.
5. Once the pan is removed from heat, mix in the Worcestershire sauce, Brown Sugar, Cinnamon, Cayenne, Seasoning Blend and Salt into the brown butter until the ingredients dissolve
6. Pour warm liquid over the bowl with the dry ingredients (oats, pretzels and nuts) and stir until the butter mixture coats all of the dry ingredients
7. Pour the mixture out on a pan that is covered with aluminum foil and bake for 10 minutes on 325 degrees
8. Once the oats have a nice crunch, put in a festive bowl and garnish with sage leaves

Finished product:

This yummy snack keeps well in the fridge or in a jar /Tupperware on the counter. The mixture of salty and sweet is just what you need this fall. Enjoy! Let me know what you think in the comments.
