Have you ever thought of how much hate there is in this world? Right now there are wars going on, children getting shot in gang related situations, bullying to the point of suicide, and people being punished, even killed because of who they love. I’m sure even if I tried, I could not list all of the injustices and acts of hate happening today. It sickens me to my core to think of how this could go on.
Makes you wonder if the people committing such horrible acts didn’t receive the love that they deserved growing up. I was one of those children raised with a spanking as a repercussion, if I was acting out. Before the spanking I was given an explanation of why this is happening and after, it was over and we went back to normal life. It’s hard, but I can imagine not having the fortune of warm hugs and words of love, but rather swift slaps and cruel language. Over time, I’m sure those things can wear on a person and soon they believe this tortuous way of living, is life.
I for one believe that LOVE is the answer. If we love each other a little bit more, think of how that might affect the world. I try to tell my friends and family I love them all the time, so that they know how much they mean to me. We never know when our last day on Earth will be and I don’t want to leave without them knowing. Because I love them, I will do anything for them, I will put their interests before mine, just to make them happy. Imagine if everyone felt this way towards everyone…
You walk by a homeless person and instead of turning up your nose and displaying hate, you could sit with them, get to know who they are as a person, possibly buy them a warm meal, because you have love in your heart. When you see someone getting bullied in school, even if you are not involved, get involved and display love towards both parties. You never know if the bully is acting out because there is something lacking in their home life. As far as the person being bullied, if you put yourself in their situation, wouldn’t you want someone to understand and appreciate your uniqueness? In war, what if the leaders of two opposing countries met and agreed to disagree on certain issues, but focused on where they were similar and showed a little love to resolve their differences?
We are all in this journey together, there is no reason to try to out shine someone, or make others feel lower than you, all in order to make yourself feel better. In the end, how is that beneficial? People tend to follow through example and if there is a positive example set, full of love, over time it will seem strange when you see someone acting in a fit of hate. Of course with any process, results can’t happen overnight, but if we take it day by day, always trying to improve, loving a little harder, I believe it can be done.
There are so many stories out there of people going against the norm to display love and compassion and one story that really resonated with me was the story of Chy Johnson (link below). Now go out and love someone today 🙂
