I am definitely that girl that does not get in political debates with anyone. Partly because I am very non confrontational and most times these arguments end badly, but also because I do now know nearly enough about both sides to argue specific points. My decisions are based on my feelings. Some people are facts this and facts that, but if certain issues do not sit right with me, do not jive with my every day life and my belief system, then I’m not for it. Imagine a world where everyone thought of the feelings of others and that is how they based their decisions. In a perfect world having everyone happy would be bliss, right?
Maybe this is why I wouldn’t be a good debater, because the rebuttal to that would be, there is no possible way to make everyone happy. I guess then you would need to rank things by importance. Let me talk about some things that are important to me. In life, I think everyone should experience love and feel free to express that in ways they feel fit. Same sex marriage is a major issue that I am for, based on my feelings and what is just. Why deny someone the right to get married based on their sexual preference? I guess the reason why I feel so strongly about this issue is because I am currently in an interracial marriage and it wasn’t that long ago that these relationships were illegal. We are all human, and the color of our skin, our sexual preferences, our religion, our should not be a deciding factor on whether or not two people can marry.
Democrats believe, “that we’re greater together than we are on our own. That this country succeeds when everyone gets a fair shot, when everyone does their fair share, when everyone plays by the same rules. Our party, led by President Obama, is focused on building an economy that lasts, an economy that lifts up all Americans.” –Democrats.org This is actually my favorite explanation of what a Democrat is and this is totally me! It confuses me why people wouldn’t want everyone to be on a level playing ground. I suppose some believe they have worked so much harder than others, so why should those people get the same benefit? It’s funny to me, because a lot of people that believe that also call themselves Christians… Conservative Republicans, what a funny group. I try to live my life as close to the way God would want me to, and it tickles me when some Conservative Republicans claim things, “in the name of God” that are completely against the values the bible has instilled in many. This is probably why so many Christians get a bad name, those that perpetuate the negative stereotype, but still say they are Christian.
In following with my belief system and being a Christian, I am against Capital Punishment. I do not believe that we should decide the fate of other people’s lives. If our prison system was doing what it is meant to, one of the goals being to reform, and the prisoner is off of the streets then what is the issue? Also if you think about all of the innocent people put to death, to me it does not seem fair.
I am bouncing around quite a bit and I think in a blog it’s okay because that is how my mind works. In conclusion I want to say I love Obama! I said it! I am not ashamed and I do not know why so many people get slack for supporting him. He is eloquent, he supports the same ideals I believe in, he isn’t stuffy (like many people in power), which makes him relatable, he is funny, and he is making history every day. Those people that say, “do not vote for him because he’s black” are rude and obviously not black. Whether or not you believe in his political stances, you cannot say his race has nothing to do with anything. I get so emotional watching him speak because a black (biracial) president was never supposed to happen. Believe it or not, there are still many racists living amongst us, but if you have a heart you would understand this is a major feat for us. I am not voting for him for this reason, but the fact that I agree with much of what he stands for and he represents my political party, him being black is a plus for me 🙂
